Nelly Rodi Scent Factory

posted Tuesday, 22 May 2007

I've read in a few accounts that the Nelly Rodi Scent Factory fragrances have very little staying powder.  Taking that into consideration, I decided not to invest in the whole collection.  Rather, I picked the two that interested me the most and got samples from my favorite sample slinger, Fishbone Fragrances.

Cardamome
Notes: cardamom, cedar

Cardamom-ish at first, but then more like cedar, with a dusty drydown.  If one put a small handful of cardamom pods in a food processor with a handful of cedar chips, pulsed it until a fine dust, and inhaled deeply from the bowl, the effect would be similar.  I adore cedar, and cardamom is one of my favorite spice flavors, but I don't really love this.   I like it enough, however, that I was disappointed when the scent left my skin within an hour of application.

Rose
Notes: bergamot, coriander, cardamom, rose, ylang, mimosa, cinnamon, caraway, musk, civet, vanilla

Wow - a spicy powdery rose with cardamom and caraway notes (the caraway here smelling a great deal like its fellow member of the Apiaceae family, cumin) and a healthy dose of sweet vanilla.  There's a lot of similarity here to another spicy rose scent, one of my very favorites, L'Artisan Safran Troublant.  The drydown is absolutely edible, soft and sweet, and thankfully lasts far longer than Cardamome.  Still...it could last longer....
