I enjoy wearing musk scents, particularly light ones. I discovered the Body Shop's White Musk back in the late 80s and have been using it ever since; I've probably gone through a dozen or so bottles by now. As I have been working my way through sniffing the Montale line, I was pleased to find they had a version of a white musk scent as well.
Notes: violet leaves, ylang-ylang, white musk
When I first apply Montale White Musk, I detect an extremely powdery note. Not as powdery as Tient de Niege, but about half that. It's not a floral powder; it's one of those scents more evocative of a physical sensation than a smell. And then there's the musk - slightly sweet, gentle, not at all animalic. Clean and fresh, perhaps slightly soapy. There's also a trace of citrusy-ness, and a floral note, the combination of which sometimes reminds me of rose. I think to myself that it smells a bit like Gendarme, maybe a little like Amazing Grace as well. But those fragrances hiding behind a cloud of powder.
The powder effect lasts well into the drydown, but it eases up a bit some hours in.
Overall, White Musk is a pleasant and soothing fragrance, an excellent choice for me on the recent gray day on which I doused myself. It is very long lasting, and I enjoyed catching sniffs of it all the way until bedtime.
