I've never been a fan of Chanel No. 5. I know, heresy. But it's true. The aldehydes were a bit shrill for me and I always thought it smelled a little like bug spray. My best friend loved No. 5 but stopped wearing it when she found out it was her mother-in-law's scent. Although I didn't like the idea of her having to give up a favorite fragrance, I didn't like the No. 5 even more, so it was no loss for me. Besides, everyone knows it's just plain wrong to smell like one's spouse's mother.
Out of curiosity, I went to Nordstrom to test the new Eau Premiere, to see how similar it was to the original No. 5. It smells just like it, however, the aldehydes are softened, there is a bit more rose, and there's a lot of vanilla and citrus. It's much younger and girlier than the original...so young that at first it smells a bit like Johnson's Baby Powder.
My biggest problem with Eau Premiere is that, unlike most fragrances, it's somewhat fleeting on my skin. Other than that...I think I like it. I may even purchase it. That's actually somewhat shocking to me.
